The BKA celebrates its 50th anniversary with a central ceremony at the Kurhaus Wiesbaden. Numerous guests of honour and high-ranking representatives from Germany and abroad attend the ceremony.

BKA sets up "BAO USA"

The attacks of Islamist terrorists in the USA lead to a worldwide new assessment of the terrorist threat situation.
On this same date, 11 September 2001, the BKA sets up a special incident task force, called "BAO USA", and, starting on 13 September 2001, carries out investigations on behalf of the Federal Prosecutor General to identify any links to Germany.
