BKA takes charge of the protection of German embassies

Following an administrative agreement between the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Foreign Office, the BKA takes charge of the protection of German embassies in certain crisis areas.

Amendment to the BKA Law

Amendment to the BKA Law expanding jurisdiction significantly: With the amended BKA Law, the Bundeskriminalamt becomes the central information and communications office for the German police. It is given original investigative jurisdiction for offences involving drugs, weapons and counterfeit currency, for politically motivated attacks on constitutional organs of the Federal Government, their members and foreign diplomatic representations, as well as preventive police powers for personal protection tasks. In addition, the tasks of the "Protection Group" Division are laid down in the law and the BKA is given the mandate to carry out forensic science research as well as criminalistic-criminological research.

Organisational change of the "Protection Group"

The "Protection Group" Division is split into two independent divisions
"Protection Group" (protection and escort services) and
"State Security" (investigations and analysis of crimes against state security)

Establishment of an "Antiterrorist" Division in Bonn-Bad Godesberg.

Transfer of the "Antiterrorist" Division to Wiesbaden

Establishment of the "Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences"

Establishment of the "Federal University of Applied Administrative Sciences". The training of the candidates for the higher career level of the police service at the BKA is designed as a university of applied sciences course.
