"Cybercrime – Threat, Intervention, Defence" was the subject of this year's BKA Autumn Conference which will be attended by some 500 representatives from the fields of police, politics, the judiciary and the sciences.  

Online banking fraud, identity theft from databases, DDoS attacks against commercial websites, cyber espionage, attacks against critical infrastructures, cyber terrorism – the World Wide Web offers countless points of attack to criminals. In 2012, the German Police Crime Statistics alone - which refers only to recorded crime - listed a total of 64,000 cases of cybercrime and 230,000 cases in which the Internet had been used to commit the offence. Many cyber offences go undetected and are thus not mirrored by the statistics.

How can effective law enforcement on the Internet be put into practice? What are the legal challenges faced by police and prosecutors? How do the police, the judiciary and the sciences respond to threats posed by cyber terrorism and cyber espionage? These are the topics BKA representatives and high-ranking guests will delve into.

BKA President Jörg Ziercke spoke on effective law enforcement in the Internet age. Klaus-Dieter Fritsche, State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of the Interior, held a presentation on „Cybercrime – global challenges of worldwide networks". Michael Daniel, Special Assistant to the President and White House Cybersecurity Coordinator, spoke on "Cybersecurity – strategic political aspects of this global challenge". Also, a panel discussion explored the question "Freedom on the Internet and cybersecurity - an irreconcilable contradiction?"
